Shamala Hamala!
how is it June already.
Here is a meditation for you to begin this summer. Even though where I am it’s still been cool like fall. Even though I’m not ready to sweat and stick to my clothes. When I was a kid we’d go to the public pool. hot concrete and Bananarama. The concession stand sold crinkle fries and the smell of ketchup in the sun mixed with chlorine and coconut and baby oil.
Does your heart ache when you think about being young? How things were calm and you spent 2 hours wandering Blockbuster deciding on a movie to watch on a friday night.
That place is still inside you. It’s the food court in your heart. If you think the goodness is gone in the world then look within and remember.
Bring kindness back. bring forgiveness and softness back. It’s still there. It never left. Close your door and turn off your phone and sink down into the memories of love and grace. And when you open your eyes bring it with you. And breathe it on to a spark until it becomes a flame.
A flame in the food court of love in your heart. Don’t burn it down though. That ruins this lovely metaphor
Here’s this week’s Call Kevin on location in Portland

Yes. french fries with ketchup at the pool, circa 1975. To bring it all back, all I need is a sip of Dr. Pepper. Slightly warm, maybe with a bee in it.
Sometimes I will look back at pictures of me when I was young and had all the time in the world to lounge in the sun. I wish we had summer break as adults.
